WAUKEGAN, Ill. – Grinnell’s softball team went 0-3 on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Classic Saturday at Waukegan SportsPark.

Lawrence University recorded a no-hitter against the Pioneers in a 12-0, five-inning victory. The winners scored three runs in the first inning, another in the second and eight in the third.

Amanda Stromquist ’12 suffered the pitching loss for Grinnell.

DES MOINES - Eloise Miller '15 leaped onto Grinnell College's all-time leader board in the long jump during the Jim Duncan Invitational Friday at Drake Stadium.

 

Miller placed seventh in the event with a jump of 16-1/2, which ties for fifth-best in Pioneer history.

DES MOINES – Frank Canady '14 ran his way onto Grinnell College's all-time leader board in the 10,000-meter run at the Jim Duncan Invitational Friday at Drake Stadium.

 

Canady finished second in the event with a clocking of 32:37.34, which ranks ninth in Pioneer history. He was just 11 seconds behind the champion in the 12-runner race.

The Grinnell College men’s tennis team blanked Knox College 9-0 in Midwest Conference South Division play Friday afternoon.

Doubles winners for Grinnell were the teams of Elliott Czarnecki ’15-Michael Cole ’12, Ishan Bhadkamkar ’13-Benjamin Charney ’15 and Eric Ritter ’12-Daniel Nellis ’13.

Singles winners were Czarnecki, Ritter, Nellis, Bhadkamkar, Charney and Cole.

Grinnell College pounded out 18 hits en route to rallying for an 11-9 non-conference baseball win over Simpson College Thursday at Indianola.

J.R. Dowrick ’15 was 4-for-5 at the plate for the Pioneers with a pair of RBIs, while Mike Nodzenski ’12 and John Spacapan ’15 had three hits each. Matt Skelly ’12, Kainoa Inafuku ’14 and Drew Davis ’13 had two each apiece.

Grinnell College is among institutions and conferences celebrating the inaugural Division III week in the NCAA that will run until Sunday April, 15.

The event is part of Division III’s Identity Initiative, which was introduced in 2010 to sharpen the division’s identity and to enable schools and conferences to consistently explain why they prefer to compete in Division III.

Grinnell College's Jared Dye '12 (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Golf Performer of the Week.

Dye bounced back from an opening-round 88 to shoot on 80 on the final day of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend. Dye's two-day score of 168 is his season-best and ranked second for Grinnell at the tourney.

The Grinnell College women’s tennis team gave Coe College all it could handle before falling 5-4 to the Kohawks in a battle of regionally-ranked squads Saturday in Grinnell.

Grinnell, ranked 13th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, fell to 18-2 while ninth-rated Coe improved to 18-2.

Clothilde Thirouin ’14 won twice for the Pioneers, including an 8-6 decision with Shirlene Luk ’15 at the No. 3 doubles spot.

The Grinnell College baseball team tied the program record for runs in a game when the Pioneers rolled to a 21-8 victory over Knox College in the opening game of a twin bill Saturday in Galesburg, Ill.

The second game was tied 8-all in the ninth inning when it was suspended due to darkness.

Grinnell’s 21 runs in the opener matches the output against Knox in a game last season.
