After falling behind 3-0 in doubles play, the Grinnell College men’s tennis team roared back to defeat Coe College 5-4 in a battle of regionally-ranked squads Saturday in Grinnell.

Three of the singles wins were in three sets as the Pioneers, ranked 15th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, improved to 17-5. Coe, rated 12th, dropped to 16-4.

The fourth time proved to be a charm for the Grinnell College softball team against Westminster College.

After dropping three previous contests to the Blue Jays this season by a combined score of 23-3, the Pioneers rallied to beat the visitors 6-5 in the consolation game of the Grinnell Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Peter Marsho ’12 led the Grinnell College men’s golf team at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational that wrapped up Saturday.

Marsho shot a 5-over-par 77 on Saturday after recording a 78 on Friday for a two-day score of 155. That tied him for 27th place.

Jared Dye ’12 improved on his round of 88 with an 80 on Saturday for a 168. That put him in a tie for 85th.

The Grinnell College men’s golf team shot a 339 and is tied for 21st place after the opening day of action at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Friday.

Grinnell College’s softball team dropped a pair of contests Friday at its own tournament.

The Pioneers opened their day with a 12-2, six-inning setback to Nebraska Wesleyan and then fell 7-2 to Westminster.

Christina Colver ’13 had two of Grinnell’s seven hits on the day, including a double against Nebraska Wesleyan.

Grinnell College’s softball team dropped a pair of decisions at Simpson College Tuesday, falling 12-0 and 8-0.

The Pioneers managed a hit in each game. In the opener, Jayme Wiebold ’12 had an infield single in the first inning and in the second contest, Jennifer Fulton ’15 hit a double to right-center in the fourth.

The Grinnell College women’s tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at nationally-ranked Carleton College Sunday in a regional battle Sunday.

Carleton, the No. 29 team in the nation and ranked fifth in the Central Region, improved to 9-4. The Pioneers, rated 13th regionally, suffered their first loss in 2011-12 and are now 18-1.

Grinnell College men’s golfer Peter Marsho ’12 rode a strong weekend effort to earn fourth-place honors in a 69-player field at the Prairie Fire Classic at Weaver Ridge in Peoria, Ill., on Saturday.

The Grinnell College softball team played Illinois College on even terms in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, but the visiting Lady Blues still emerged with a 3-2 victory at the Softball Complex.
