The Grinnell College soccer programs opened the 2002 season with new practice and game fields. The competition field is called Springer Field Already one of few Division III schools to have separate fields for the men's and women's programs, Grinnell went one step futher this past year by constructing two new practice fields (one for each program) and a performance game field (to be shared by the men and women). The new field meets maximum NCAA specifications, measuring 120x75, while terraced and burm seating is available for spectators. To the right is the women's team warming up on the south goal. (Left) A view of midfield from the media tower. In the background is the terraced spectator seating. Behind that you can see the football team practicing.
(Above Right) Spectators taking in the game from the burm (sloped) seating. In the background is the new softball complex. The large structure is the softball media tower. The soccer tower is exactly the same, bordering the west sideline. Photo taken from our tower.
Cross coming in from the corner. In the background is one of the two scoreboards.
(Right) Shot of the women hard at work practicing. In the near background is prairie grass that was planted in part to form a natural barrier between the men's and women's fields so that soccer balls don't roll onto each others' fields. In the far background are men's players practicing.
Finally, another shot from the media tower featuring the north goal. Just beyond it is the women's practice field. To the right of the women's field is the men's practice field.
