Beloit College used a big second half to stop the Grinnell College football team 41-7 in the season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon in Beloit, Wis.
Beloit led just 15-6 at halftime after scoring two touchdowns and a field goal. However, Grinnell sliced the lead to 15-7 by halftime thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run by Mike Martinez '10 (pictured) with 29 seconds left in the second period. The drive began with a 24-yard pass from Mike McCabe '13 to Logan Granera '12 and also included a 14-yard rush by TJ Schaid '13. The touchdown was followed by an extra point kick by Scott Koenning '10.
However, Beloit responded with 19 third-period points to lead 34-7 and added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to finish off the scoring.
Granera caught six passes for 56 yards, while Schaid was Grinnell's leading rusher with 49 yards. Defensively, Marquis Bradley '11 had 20 tackles for Grinnell, Ryan Fletcher '11 tallied nine and Ryan Boehm '10 had eight. Ryan Creps '12 forced a fumble.
Grinnell finished off its campaign at 2-7 in the Midwest Conference and 2-8 overall, while Beloit is 5-4 in the MWC and 6-4 in all games.
