Head Coach Max Hawsey

Assistant Professor
Max Hawsey took over duties as Grinnell's football coach in January 2008, replacing longtime coach Greg Wallace.

Hawsey came from Colorado College, where since 2003 he had served as offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, strength and conditioning coordinator, and supervisor of the school's weight room and fitness center. He previously served seven years as an assistant football coach at his alma mater, Austin College in Texas. He also coached track and field at Austin College, and has served as a head track and field coach at the high school level.

At Colorado College, Hawsey coached an All-American quarterback and helped the team break 15 offensive school records. In the past two seasons, Colorado College has averaged more than 30 points and 400 yards per game. As a player at Austin College, Hawsey was a first-team all-conference performer at outside linebacker twice. He served as team captain and was voted most valuable player his senior year, while also earning Second-Team All-America honors at defensive end.

Hawsey and his wife, Sara, have three children - Marion (4), Hunter (3) and Natalie (1).

Assistant Coaches
Alt Text Tim Hollibaugh - Assistant Head Coach
Tim Hollibaugh is the team's assistant head coach and coaches the team's linebackers. He begins his 14th season as an assistant football coach under Greg Wallace. Hollibaugh joined the Pioneer football staff in 1994 as receivers coach and moved to the defensive side of the ball as coach of the secondary in 1997.

In 1998, Hollibaugh took over the defense and moved it from the middle of the conference to second in total defense, allowing only 278 yards per game, en route to the 1998 Midwest Conference Championship.

Hollibaugh is a graduate of Hanover College with a double major in physical education and sociology. At Hanover, he was a two-sport athlete in football and baseball. He holds a master's degree in physical education from Indiana State University.

Hollibaugh is also head coach of the Grinnell baseball team and holds faculty rank as an associate professor. He and his wife Alison have three children, Ryan (8), Blake (6) and Lindsey (3).


Alt Text Zach Fletcher - Offensive Line Coach
Zach Fletcher '03 begins his third season as an assistant football coach for the Pioneers. Prior to returning to Grinnell, Fletcher spent eight months at Dunnellon High School in Dunnellon, Fla., serving as football offensive coordinator, along with teaching classes.

Born in Colorado in 1981, Fletcher moved to Florida in 1986, and was a 1999 graduate of Spruce Creek High School in Daytona Beach, Fla. Following his high school days, Fletcher arrived at Grinnell in the fall of 1999 and played four years of football under Coach Greg Wallace. During his Pioneer career, he earned First Team All-Conference accolades three times, while also serving as a team captain his final two seasons. He graduated in the spring of 2003 with a B.A. degree in history.

Fletcher's coaching duties at Grinnell include the offensive line along with strength and conditioning coach. Aside from coaching, he serves as the Fitness Center Director.




Alt Text Jason Anderson - Defensive Coordinator
Jason Anderson '01 begins his fifth season working with the Pioneer football team. He is 2001 graduate of Grinnell with a degree in American studies.

As a student-athlete at Grinnell, he was a starter on the 1998 Midwest Conference Championship football team and a captain on the 2001 Midwest Conference Championship basketball team. In his time at Grinnell College, Anderson made a game-winning free throw, blocked an extra point attempt to seal a win in overtime, and hit a game-winning grand slam. Anderson will serve as the Defensive Coordinator and will also serve as the linebackers coach. In addition to his football duties he is an Assistant Baseball Coach under Tim Hollibaugh.

Anderson is originally from Grinnell and resides in town with his wife, Yoly, and their three children, A.J., Mikey, and Maddux.
