Grinnell 2nd in national water polo tourney
Alt Text

The Grinnell Wild Turkeys water polo club outdid all foes but one on its way to a runner-up finish in the Division III Men's National College Club Championship over the weekend in St. Louis, Mo.

Grinnell opened the tourney with a 9-6 victory over the University of Chicago and followed that up with a 6-4 overtime victory over Tufts University. Lindenwood University worked past Grinnell 12-4 in the title contest.

Grinnell's Ali Titiz and goalie Brian Smith were named to the all-tournament first team, while Zach Wegerman was a second-team selection. On top of that, both Wegerman and Titiz were named outstanding coaches of the tourney.

The team included Titiz, Smith, Wegermann, Max Stephenson, Matt Hochstein, Sinan Ozer, Pat Blachly, Thor Kahn, Nate Wittnam, Matt Remissong, Cyrus Mistry, Patrick Thomas, Ian Warlick, Eric Thumma, Jason Thumma, Jon Willuhn, Daniel Prentice and Shiv Kapur.

Grinnell finished the season with a 13-1 mark and unbeaten champs of its conference, the Heartland Division. Other members of the league are Macalester College, Saint John's University, Monmouth College, Saint Mary's University, Carleton College and Knox College.

About Intramurals...

The Intramural program at Grinnell College is designed for students to have an outlet from studying. There are fifteen intramural sports offered to the students, staff and faculty. Most of the Intramural leagues will have a competitive league for those who want to take the games more seriously and a non-competitive league for those students who want to just go out and have fun.

For those students who wish to do more than just participate in Intramural sports there is also an abundance of club sports offered to students. Clubs can range anywhere from traditional sports like volleyball, soccer and baseball to fencing, archery, and water polo. Students are allowed to participate in as many activities as they want on campus and we encourage all students to be active.
