Shotts hits eight 3-pointers, Briggs has all-tourney performance in Pioneer win
Shotts and Briggs Using an explosive shooting performance by Jessica Shotts '10 and another consistent effort by 6-foot-3 Michelle Briggs '13, the Grinnell College women's basketball team held off a feisty Martin Luther College squad for a 73-66 victory in the Grinnell Tip-Off Tournament Saturday at Darby Gymnasium. Shotts erupted for eight 3-pointers, one shy of her school record, on 14 tries from beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 30 points as Grinnell improved to 2-1 on the season. Briggs also was in double-digit scoring with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds, five blocks and three steals en route to making the all-tournament team. More

Krauss places 120th at NCAA Division III National Cross Country Meet
Krauss Grinnell College's Dan Krauss '12 wrapped up a stellar 2009 cross country campaign by finishing 120th at the NCAA Division III National Championship Saturday at Highland Park Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio. Krauss ran the 8 kilometer race, which included 276 runners, in 26 minutes, 51.4 seconds. The men's individual champ was Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg, who finished in 25:09.8. North Central won the men's team title. More

Defending Iowa Conference champ BVU defeats Pioneers
Kaitz Defending Iowa Conference champion Buena Vista University shot out to a 63-35 halftime lead on its way to a 126-85 home win over the Grinnell College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon. Griffin Lentsch '13 had 17 points for the Pioneers, who dipped to 1-2 on the season, while others in double figures were Jesse Ney '13 with 11 and Scott Kaitz '11 with 10. More

Pair of Pioneers win 3 events each in men's swimming and diving win
Swimming Marco Fulgoni '12 and Beck Ringdahl-Mayland '13 were each three-time winners as the Grinnell College men's swimming and diving team rolled over Loras College 166-65 at Obermiller Pool Friday night. Fulgoni won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in 22.13 seconds and 49.61, respectively, and was also part of the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:45.13). Ringdahl-Mayland was also on that relay team and placed first in the 400 individual medley (4:30.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.70). More

2-time winners spark Grinnell women's swimming and diving team
Swimming Three Grinnell College entries won two events each as the Pioneer women's swimming and diving team sailed to a 168-72 victory over Loras College Friday night at Obermiller Pool. Two-time winners were Meghan McDoniel '10, Martha Reilly '12 and Kelly Bruce '12. McDoniel won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 4.24 seconds) and was part of the first-place 400 medley relay team (4:18.81), while Reilly took first in the 500 and 1000 freestyles (5:37.08 and 11:35.59, respectively). Bruce was first in one- and three-meter diving with scores of 259.50 and 263.20, respectively. More

Fast start sends Buena Vista past Pioneer women's basketball team
Briggs and Burnett Grinnell College fell behind 36-20 at halftime on its way to a 79-47 setback to Buena Vista University Friday night at the Grinnell Tip-Off Tournament at Darby Gymnasium. Michelle Briggs '13 led the Pioneers in scoring with a team-high 10 points while also grabbing nine rebounds, while Elizabeth Burnett '13 added nine points and had 10 boards. More

Grinnell's Krauss to compete on national stage Saturday
Krauss Grinnell College's Dan Krauss '12 will take aim at the national stage Saturday when he competes in the 2009 NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships in Highland Hills, Ohio. Krauss advanced after placing 13th at last Saturday's regional meet at Oakland Acres Golf Course. He had a time of 25 minutes, 26.3 seconds on the 8 kilometer course. More

Brian Jaworski has been named MWC Coach of the Year, and Pioneers Alex Exarhos '10, JP Prouty '10 and Andrew Stephenson '10 have all been named to the All-MWC First Team in voting by the league's coaches. Boehm and Bradley Grinnell College football players Ryan Boehm '10 and Marquis Bradley '11 have been named to the All-Midwest Conference Second Team for the 2009 campaign. Lankiewicz is MWC Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week
Lankiewicz Grinnell College's Thomas Lankiewicz '12 has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Lankiewicz, from Oconomowoc, Wis. (Kettle Moraine), won six events over the weekend, with two coming in the Pioneers' victory over the Nebraska Swim Club and four more against Augustana College.More

Nakamura named to All-MWC Women's Soccer First Team for 4th year in a row
Nakamura For the fourth time in her career, Grinnell College women's soccer player Miki Nakamura '10 has been named to the All-Midwest Conference First Team. Nakamura, a midfielder/forward from Honolulu, Hawaii (Kamehameha), finished among the Pioneers' all-time leaders in points (127), goals (49) and assists (29). This season, she tied a MWC and program record for assists in a game with five in a win over Illinois College. She finished 2009 with six goals, eight assists and 20 points. More

Krauss selected for NCAA National Cross Country Meet
Krauss Dan Krauss '12 of Grinnell College has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships on Nov. 21 at Highland Hills Golf Course in Highland, Ohio. A total of 32 teams and 56 individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who were not a part of a qualifying team, were picked to participate in the national meet. More

Big 2nd half rally sends Pioneers' Arseneault to 250th career coaching win
Arseneault The Grinnell College men's basketball team used an explosive second half to help coach David Arseneault win his 250th career game Sunday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium. Trailing by 24 points at intermission, the Pioneers erupted for 66 points in the second half while holding Waldorf College to just 35 as the hosts earned a 99-92 non-conference win. Arseneault, who took over the coaching duties at Grinnell in 1989, is now 250-208 in his career. More

WXC Hannah Colter '12 and Annie Tempest '12 led the way for the Grinnell College women's cross country team at Saturday's NCAA Division III Central Region Meet at Oakland Acres Golf Course. Reeder named MWC Volleyball Player of the Year, Hutchison is Coach of the Year
Reeder and Hutchison Claire Reeder '11 of Grinnell College has been named the 2009 Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, while the Pioneers' Jackie Hutchison was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year. The Pioneers enjoyed a historic season in which they qualified for the MWC Championships for the first time since a qualifying system was implemented in 2005. Grinnell finished third in league with a 5-4 mark. More

Pioneer men's soccer team makes history by qualifying for NCAA Tourney
Champs The Grinnell College men's soccer team made history Saturday by qualifying for its first NCAA Division III National Tournament with a shootout victory over Beloit College in the Midwest Conference Championship game. The win was even more impressive since Grinnell had fallen behind 2-0 in the first six-plus minutes. But the Pioneers rallied with the efforts of Mark Rosenberg '11, who scored in the 32nd minute to make it a 2-1 game at halftime and then added a goal in the 78th minute on an assist by Matti Sahel '11 to make it 2-all.More
