The Grinnell College men’s basketball team kept its perfect run intact Friday night, beating Lawrence University 103-94 in Midwest Conference action.
The Pioneers, 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the league, extended their regular-season winning streak to 20 games dating back to last season. Matt Chalupa ’13 led Grinnell with 19 points with the aid of 6-of-11 shooting from 3-point land, while Griffin Lentsch ’13 and Jesse Ney ’13 had 15 points apiece.
Patrick Maher ’14 added eight assists, Chalupa tallied three steals and Maher and Brian McManamy ’13 had five rebounds apiece.
Two players scored 23 points for the Vikings, who fell to 3-8 in all games and 2-5 overall.
The game was tight much of the first half and tied at 33-all with 6:37 remaining. That’s when Grinnell broke things open with a 23-4 run, which began with a jumper by Lentsch and 3-pointer from Chalupa.
Ney had a pair of 3-pointers during the run and Lentsch one. Marques Valdez ’13 scored three points, while Dylan Bartuch ’15, Joe Rogers ’13 and Luke Yeager ’15 had two each.
Grinnell led 63-45 at halftime and never let the hosts within single digits after that.
The Pioneers play again Saturday against Carroll University. Game time in Waukesha, Wis., is 3 p.m.
