Was a four year letterw-winner in golf and a three-year letterwinner in football and basketball at Rockwell City-Lytton High School. Was named 1st Team All-State and Academic All-State his senior year and was a McDonald's All-American Candidate. Was named 1st Team All-Conference his sophomore, junior and senior years and was named All-District his junior and senior years. Was also All-Conference in golf (senior year) and football (junior and senior years). Was awarded the Governor's Scholar Award and the Iowa Scholar Award and was also a Wendy's High School Heisman nominee.
