For the second year in a row, the Grinnell College men’s cross country team claimed top honors at its own Les Duke Invitational.
The Pioneers tallied 70 points to edge North Iowa Community College by two points in the eight-team race at Oakland Acres Golf Club Saturday. Bethel University was third with 79 points and Wartburg took fourth with 85.
Frank Canady ’14 (left) earned runner-up honors for Grinnell in 26:27, finishing just 2 seconds behind Principia’s Drew Clark.
Nathan Kakazu ’13 (right) added a fifth-place finish for Grinnell in 26:50.
Other scorers for Grinnell were Erik Figge ’13, who was 12th in 27:05, Kyle Moorehead ’15, who was 23rd in 27:37 and Evan Griffith ’15, who was 32nd in 27:55.
They were followed by Sam Krauth ’14 (36th in 28:06) and Harry Maher ’15 (38th in 28:09).
Grinnell’s next action is Sept. 23 at the Augustana Invitational.
