Battling a strong field that included nationally- and regionally-ranked teams, the Grinnell College men’s cross country squad was 25th among 47 colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Course.
Leading the Pioneers was Erik Figge ’13 (pictured), who was 98th among 434 runners in a time of 26:28.50. Ben Tyler ’14 was 127th in 26:41.24, Frank Canady ’14 placed 197th in 27:17.40, Sam Krauth ’14 was 214th in 27:21.74 and Evan Griffith ’15 took 245th in 27:38.81.
Others in the mix for the Pioneers were Kyle Moorehead ’15, who was 304th in 28:17.98, and Harry Maher ’15, who placed 315th in 28:26.23.
The Pioneers finished with 781 points, 21 behind 24th-place Elmhurst College. North Central easily won the team title with 49 points.
The individual champ was Tim Nelson of University of Wisconsin-Stout, who ran 24:45.85.
Grinnell travels to Ripon, Wis., to take part in the Midwest Conference Championships on Oct. 29.
