The Grinnell College cross country teams will aim at taking home the championship trophies Saturday when they compete at the 2011 Midwest Conference Championships in Ripon, Wis.

Grinnell’s men are shooting for their 15th consecutive league crown, while the women are looking to regain the title they lost to St. Norbert College last season.

The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 11 a.m. at Ceresco Prairie, while the 8-kilometer men’s event is at noon.

Grinnell has three runners ranked among the league’s top 10 this season, led by Stephanie Rouse ’13, who is second with a time of 22:39. That is just over 5 seconds behind the leader, Megan O’Grady of Carroll University.

Sarah Burnell ’14 ranks sixth with a clocking of 23:10, while Hannah Colter ’12 is 10th at 23:23.

Grinnell’s men also have three runners ranked among the top 10, with Frank Canady ’14 leading the way at seventh with a time of 26:27. Erik Figge ’13 is eighth at 26:29 and Ben Tyler ’14 is 10th in 26:42.

The leader is Joe Welty of Monmouth College, whose time is 25:38.7.
