The Grinnell College men’s golf team will compete at the 2011 Midwest Conference Championships Thursday through Saturday at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford, Ill.
Grinnell is coming off a fifth-place finish at last year’s event, which was won by Monmouth College. The Fighting Scots have won the past two titles.
Grinnell has been paced by Peter Marsho ’12, who was a top 15 finisher at last year’s event and ranks seventh in the league this year with a 78.1 stroke average. He finished fourth at the Simpson College Spring Invite and at the Central College Invitational.
Other top Pioneers in 2011 have been Alex McDonald ’11 (83.4 average), Jon Cohen ’14 (83.8) and Ian Luby ’13 (84.5).
The MWC champion earns the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA National Championships, slated for May 10-13 in Greensboro, N.C.
