Grinnell College men’s golfer Peter Marsho ’12 rode a strong weekend effort to earn fourth-place honors in a 69-player field at the Prairie Fire Classic at Weaver Ridge in Peoria, Ill., on Saturday.
Marsho had been tied for fourth after the first day, but rose to claim that placing all by himself by the end of Saturday as he had a two-day score of 155. He shot a 6-over-par 78 on the final day after having a 77 Friday to finish just two shots behind champion Blake Mitchell of Iowa Wesleyan College.
Jared Dye ’12 was next in line for Grinnell with an 83-86-169, good for 36th place. Ian Luby ’13 was close behind with an 83-87-170 to take 37th, Chris Marsho ’14 added an 88-88-176 to earn 43rd-place honors and Jon Cohen ’14 shot a 90-91-181 to finish 51st.
Grinnell wound up eighth in the team standings with a two-day score of 670, shooting a 339 on Saturday after going 331 on Friday. The champion was the University of Dubuque with a 628.
Grinnell also has a B team in the meet. That squad was paced by Ethan Kenvarg ’12, who had an 82-95-177 to finish in a 44th-place tie.
