2006 Season Review

golf The Pioneer men's golf team finished its season with a fourth-place finish and a three-day score of 959 at the 2006 Midwest Conference Men's Golf Championships held May 4-6 at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill., and hosted by Grinnell College.

Grinnell's Jack Kennedy '06 finished in fourth place individually with a three-round total of 231. Michael Inman '09 scored a three-day total of 240 to finish in 11th place. Ben Johannsen '07 carded a 244 for a 16th-place finish. Trek Langenhan '07 tied for 26th place with a 254, while Ryan Long '07 tied for 28th with a three-day total of 255. R.J. Roewe's ('09) 259 took him to a tie for 32nd place.

The team went into the championship meet off a third-place showing at the South Division Championships, where they were third out of four teams with a two-day team score of 649. Kennedy shot a 77 during the first round, played at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth, Ill., and carded an 82 on Sunday at Grinnell Golf and Country Club to finish with a two-round total of 159. He finished in eighth place individually.

Roewe's 159 did not count toward Grinnell's final score, but he did finish ninth individually. Langenhan and Long tied for Grinnell's best round on the second day with scores of 79. Langenhan tied for 14th overall with a total of 164 after shooting an 85 on Saturday, while Long finished with a two-day score of 165 and an 18th-place finish. Johannsen recorded an 84 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 14th with 164. Inman shot an 83 on Saturday, but sat out Sunday's round with a back injury. Joe Fox tied for 19th with a 168, while Rob Peterson tied for 29th with a 181. Wes Barber's 182 took 31st place, and Jeff Wallace tied for 32nd after shooting a 187 over two rounds.

The Pioneers finished 13th at the Simpson Invitational with a team total score of 336, as Wes Barber finished tied for 12th with a score of 78, and Kennedy tied for 42nd with a round of 84.

The team finished eighth at the Monmouth Invitational with a team score of 323. Kennedy tied for 16th with a score of 77, and Long tied for 28th with a round of 79.

The Pioneers finished in 16th place at the Wartburg Invitational with a two-round total score of 659. Friday's round was played at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa, while Saturday's round was held at Waverly Golf and Country Club. Grinnell's Inman finished tied for 56th with a two-round score of 163, and Long tied for 63rd with a two-day total of 164.
