Evan Wright ’12 (pictured) scored a pair of goals as the Grinnell College men’s soccer team earned a 2-2, double-overtime tie at Beloit College Saturday afternoon.
Wright opened the scoring in the 16th minute on an assist by Joseph Brown ’15, but Beloit tied it a minute later and it was 1-all at halftime.
Beloit added a goal in the 78th minute but Grinnell was not to be outdone, as Wright hit the back of the net on a corner kick in the 88th minute, with the assist going to Bozo Susac ’12. It was Wright’s third goal of the season.
It remained 2-all through the rest of regulation and both extra periods.
Beloit won the shots battle 23-16. Wright had eight of Grinnell’s shots, with six of those on goal, while Brown had three shots and Susac two.
Greg Fox ’12 played 83 minutes at keeper for Grinnell and had 11 saves. Ben Schemper ’12 played the rest of the way and had one save.
Grinnell is 3-9-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the league, while Beloit moved to 5-7-2 in all games and 4-2-1 in the MWC.
Grinnell takes on league leader Carroll University at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Waukesha, Wis.
