The Grinnell College men’s soccer team dominated the shots department, but in the end Illinois College came away with a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Ill.

Grinnell outshot the hosts 23-11, with 16 of the Pioneers’ shots on goal. But the hosts got a goal in the 56th minute by Alex Gagnor for what proved to be the game-winner.

Grinnell is now 1-4 in the MWC and 3-9-1 overall, while Illinois College moved to 1-3-1 in the league and 6-5-3 in all games.

Evan Wright ’12 had seven of Grinnell’s shots, Charlie Kessner ’12 added four and Omeed Kashef ’14, Marshall Botto ’15 and Benjamin Warner ’15 had two apiece.

Greg Fox ’12 worked 77 minutes at keeper for the Pioneers and had six saves, while Ben Schemper ’12 went the rest of the way and had one save.

Grinnell plays at Beloit College next Saturday, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
