Assistant Coach Deidre Freeman

Freeman begins her first year at the helm of Grinnell diving. She replaces long-time Pioneer coach Ray Obermiller, who retired at the end of the season in 2011.

Freeman comes from an extensive background as a diver. She most recently dove for the University of Iowa where she was a two-time All-America performer for the Hawkeyes. Freeman competed in five U.S. Senior National events and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials. She is Iowa's school record-holder in one-meter, three-meter and synchronized diving.

Freeman brings with her a wealth of coaching experience, including dry-land coach at the Iowa State University diving camp in 2007, diving camp coach and substitute coach at Tualatin Hills, Ore., in 2010, and diving lesson coach at the University of Iowa in 2011.

She graduated from Grinnell High School in 2006 and holds bachelor's degrees from Iowa in religious studies and Spanish.
