Emanuel Spooner ’13 (pictured) won three events while helping the Grinnell College men’s swimming and diving team to a 111-65 victory over Coe College Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
Spooner won the 100-yard butterfly (56.54) and 200 individual medley (2:07.58) and joined Rick Bigler ’13, Dylan Gray ’14 and Ethan Drutchas ’13 on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:43.26).
Drutchas also won the 50 freestyle (22.93) and was joined by individual champs Collin Kramer ’15 in the 1000 freestyle (10:45.48), Joe Lytle ’14 in the 200 freestyle (1:49.43), Thomas Lankiewicz ’12 in the 100 backstroke (58.01), Eric Mistry ’14 in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.09), Michael Brus ’14 in the 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle (2:02.39 and 48.51, respectively), Erik Dixon-Anderson ’14 in the 200 backstroke (2:10.99), Chris Kaiser-Nyman ’13 in the 200 breastroke (2:18.40) and Ben Weideman ’15 in the 500 freestyle (5:14.19).
Grinnell also won the 200 freestyle relay with Bill Mogavero ’12, Gus Fulgoni ’15, Isaiah Sarju ’13 and Michael Schoelz ’12 (1:34.78).
Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Lankiewicz in the 100 butterfly (57.59), Mogavero in the 1000 freestyle (11:06.51), Marco Fulgoni ’12 in the 200 freestyle (1:51.01), James Kent ’14 in the 100 backstroke (59.19), 200 breaststroke (2:21.31) and 200 individual medley (2:07.79), Will Elsas ’14 in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.77) and 200 backstroke (2:13.23), Beck Ringdahl-Mayland ’13 in the 200 butterfly (2:09.34) and 500 freestyle (5:20.65), Joe Sinnwell ’12 in the 50 freestyle (24.71), Milton Garcia ’14 in one-meter diving and Lytle in the 100 freestyle (49.65).
Also taking second was the 200 medley relay team of Lankiewicz, Pun Winichakul ’13, Jerry Brown ’14 and Weideman (1:43.99) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Brown, Sam Sherwood ’12, Thomas Pritchard ’14 and Drutchas (1:35.42).
The Pioneers, 5-1 in dual meets, will compete in the Midwest Conference Championships Feb. 17-19 in Appleton, Wis.
