Five Grinnell College men’s swimmers tasted victory at least twice Saturday to assist their team to a repeat title at their own Pioneer Classic at Russell K. Osgood Pool.
Michael Brus ’14 was a triple winner, while double winners were Thomas Lankiewicz ’12, Max Fulgoni ’12 (left), Dylan Gray ’14 (right) and Joe Lytle ’14.
Brus and Fulgoni were both part of the winning and meet record-setting 200-yard medley and 400 freestyle relay teams that posted times of 1:38.09 and 3:13.15, respectively.
Lankiewicz and Lytle rounded out the 400 team and also helped the 800 freestyle team to victory and a meet record along with Brus and Ben Weideman ’15 (7:15.27)
Beck Ringdahl-Mayland ’13 and Austin Cote ’15 completed the 200 medley squad, while Gray was first in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes (1:01.84 and 2:15.35, respectively)
Brus was second in the 400 individual medley (4:17.21) and 200 backstroke (1:56.64) despite beating last year’s meet record. Also taking second were Ringdahl-Mayland in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.89) and Colin Yarnell ’12 in one-meter diving (339 points).
Michael Riegsecker ’15 was third in one-meter diving (238.25) and Cote took fourth in the 100 butterfly (54.94).
Fifth went to Lankiewicz in the 400 individual medley (4:31.58) and 100 freestyle (48.90), Ethan Drutchas ’13 in the 200 freestyle (1:53.83), Milton Garcia ’14 in one-meter diving (206.70), Weideman in the 200 backstroke (2:03.72) and Ringdahl-Mayland in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.51).
Grinnell tallied 1,157 points in the 13-team field, well ahead of runner-up Morningside’s total of 644.5.
The Pioneers are off until Jan. 10, when they face Connecticut College in Florida.
