Emanuel Spooner ’13 won a trio of events for the Grinnell College men’s swimming and diving team at the Pioneer Invitational Saturday in Cedar Rapids.

The meet had been slated to be in Grinnell, but was moved when the pool here was closed due to duct work repair.

Spooner won the 50-yard freestyle (23.22), 100 butterfly (53.40) and 100 freestyle (51.38).

The Grinnell College men’s swimming and diving team, led by another stellar performance by Michael Brus ’14, continued its dominance at the Midwest Conference Championships Sunday at Appleton, Wis.

Brus earned an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the 200-yard backstroke and MWC Swimmer of the Year honors as the Pioneers claimed their 11th MWC team title in a row.The Swimmer of the Year award was the second in a row for Brus.

Michael Brus ’14 earned an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and two Grinnell College men’s relay teams broke Midwest Conference championship records at the 2012 league swimming and diving event Saturday in Appleton, Wis.

Michael Brus ‘14 destroyed the Grinnell College record in the men’s 500-yard freestyle while sending the Pioneers to the early lead at the 2012 Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday at Appleton, Wis.
