Attended North Platte High School, where he lettered in tennis and was a state participant. Also earned the Sportsmanship Award and was named all-academic. Aside from athletics, won numerous other awards - USAA National Mathematics, Rotary Youth Leadership, Air Force Recruiting Service Math and Science, Bausch and Laumb Honorary Science and USAA National Leadership and Service. Was also a member of National Honor Society and Who's Who Honor Society while being named a USAA All-American Scholar.
