A full-time employee in the Grinnell athletic department since 1987, Andy Hamilton took over the men's tennis program as head coach in 1996. Under his tutelage the Pioneers have risen in the Midwest Conference standings, achieved NCAA regional rankings, won the league's South division title 10 times, and crowned numerous singles and doubles conference champions.

Grinnell has claimed six of the last seven Midwest Conference Championships since the 2002 season. In winning the last five league titles, the Pioneer netmen have posted an impressive 107-30 overall dual match record, while failing to drop a conference match.

Grinnell has recorded at least 10 dual-match victories in 12 straight seasons, including 19 or more the last five seasons. Under Hamilton, the Pioneers have finished no lower than fourth in the league.

A major milestone for Hamilton's program occurred in 2002, when Felipe Bautista '02 became the first Grinnell men's tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Another milestone that occurred in 2008 was Hamilton reaching his 200th career victory and the Pioneers winning their first-ever NCAA Tournament contest. Through 2008, Hamilton owns a 202-104 mark.

A long-time assistant coach for Grinnell, Hamilton has helped turn around three separate programs during his tenure- men's basketball, women's basketball, and football.

Hamilton also serves the College as assistant director of athletics, head women's tennis coach and as an associate professor of physical education. His 2007 Pioneer women's tennis squad won the MWC Tournament and he was named Coach of the Year. Hamilton also was Grinnell's women's basketball coach before resigning that post after the 2007-08 campaign. He holds a MSS in sports management from the United States Sports Academy, and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Grinnell College in 1985.

Hamilton is married to Sarah Hamilton, a Grinnell College graduate of the class of 1991. The Hamiltons have two children: William and Lily.
