Ben Tyler ’14 (pictured) claimed runner-up honors in the mile run to lead the Grinnell College men’s track and field team at the Hilltop Open over the weekend at Cornell College.

Tyler ran the race in 4:36.30, less than a second behind the winner. Grinnell had two other high finishers in the race, as Sam Krauth ’14 placed third in 4:37.00 and Evan Griffith ’15 was seventh in 4:41.00.

The Pioneers had a trio of fourth-place finishers – Jake Lindstrom ’14 in the pole vault (13-5 ¼), Dylan Boucher ’12 in the high jump (5-6) and Gavin Warnock ’14 in the long jump (20-0 ½). Lars Olson ’15 placed seventh in the pole vault (10-0).

Grinnell was eighth in the 4x400 relay, as Eric Ragan ’12, Harpreet Singh ’12, David Garwood ’13 and Kyle Moorehead ’15 ran 3:43.00. Moorehead also was 10th in the 800 in 2:04.21.

The Pioneers host their own Darren Young Classic next Saturday.
