Stewart Wins the Javelin Throw at 191'7"
Despite battling the brutal Midwest weather conditions for more than a week, and having two separate scheduled meets cancelled for the weekend, the Grinnell College men's track and field team took three individuals to compete in the NW Collegiate Open, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University, this past Saturday.
The highlight for the Pioneers came from Willie Stewart '08, who won the javelin throw with an NCAA provisionally qualifying throw of 191'7". The throw is tops in the conference this season and currently ranks third in all of Division III.
Andrew LaRue '10 and Kennon Landis '09 also took part in the meet for the Pioneers. The duo competed in both the hammer throw and the discus - capturing top-20 finishes in both. LaRue took 17th in the hammer throw (93') and 11th in the discus (112'), while Landis captured a 19th place finish in the hammer throw (80') and took 15th in the discus (103').
The Pioneers are scheduled to return to competition on April 21st when they host the Dick Young Classic beginning at 9:00 a.m.
