Pioneers Land Several High Finishes over Spring Break
The Grinnell College men's track and field team opened outdoor competition over spring break by taking part in the ERAU Classic. The team captured several strong performances in preparation for its upcoming schedule.
In the 100 meter dash, Winnon Brunson '10 finished 12th with a time of 11.57, while also capturing a 12th-place finish in the 200 meter dash in 23.73. His 200 time is currently the fastest in the conference.
Willie Stewart '08 (56.98) and Ben Remington '08 (57.83) landed ninth and 10th place finishes, respectively in the 400 meter dash. Tommie Jamison '09 took third in the 800 meter run (2:01.36) as Kyle Lynch-Klarup '10 finished in fourth (2:03.68). Jamison then continued his strong performance with a runner-up finish in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:07.61. Both times are tops in the MWC at this point.
Nick Sparr '09 holds the league's top time in the 5,000 as he won the event in a time of 15:31.24, while Mike Gallagher '10 took 13th. Greg Swanson '10 and Tim McDonald '10 landed fourth and sixth place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles before Swanson also took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.
The team's 4x100 meter relay team took fifth (46.93), while the 4x800 relay finished in second with a time of 8:25.89.
The Pioneers also had a handful of athletes place in the Walt Disney World Invitational which took place at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. David Montgomery '10 took 10th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:47.32. The 3,000 meter steeplechase saw Grinnell take second, third, and fifth. Sparr landed the second spot in 9:46.40, while Charlie Knuth '08 (9:58.56) and Sam Calish '10 (10:25.18) finished third and fifth, respectively.
Joey Snyder '10 placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 123' 07". Stewart led several Pioneers in the javelin throw with a second-place throw of 176' 07". Snyder took fifth in the event with a throw of 167' 07" while Bryan Berube '07 placed eighth (148' 01").
The team returns to action on April 7th when it travels to Lamoni, Iowa, to compete in the Yellowjacket Classic.
