The Grinnell College softball team is looking to make strides from last year as the Pioneers prepares for their 2012 campaign.

The Pioneers, who were 0-33 in 2011, return seven players from that squad. Included in that mix is two-time All-Midwest Conference selection Amanda Stromquist ’12, who split duties between the field and pitching last season.

Six Grinnell College softball players earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2011 campaign.

Pioneers making the Division III list were Kelsey Montgomery ’11, Hannah Ney ’11, Grace Ryan ’14, Amanda Stromquist ’12, Aniela Wendt ’14 and Jayme Wiebold ’12. In order to be honored, players must have a grade point average of at least 3.50.

Gallo is an all-conference selection for the third time in her career, while Stromquist is now a two-time all-league pick.

The Grinnell College softball team wrapped up its 2011 campaign Wednesday afternoon, falling to nationally-ranked Central College 10-1 and 12-0 at Pella.

Grinnell College’s softball team lost a twin bill at Loras College Sunday, falling 11-2 and 8-0.

Aniela Wendt ’14 (pictured) and Amanda Stromquist ’12 both had three hits on the day for Grinnell, which is now 0-31. Loras improved to 16-21.

The Grinnell College softball team lost a pair of contests at Knox College Friday, falling 3-2 and 11-3.

Amanda Stromquist ’12 (pictured) and Brianna Gallo ’11 each had four hits on the day.

In the opener, Knox scored a run in the first inning and two in the second for a 3-0 lead.

Grinnell battled back with a run in the third as Aniela Wendt ’14 scored, and got a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Hannah Ney ’11.
