The Grinnell College softball team wrapped up its 2011 campaign Wednesday afternoon, falling to nationally-ranked Central College 10-1 and 12-0 at Pella.
Grinnell hung tight with the Dutch for half of the first game, which was tied 1-1 through 3 ½ innings.
Central scored a run in the bottom of the first before Grinnell tallied one in the top of the third to tie it. Christina Colver ’13 led off the frame with a walk, moved to second on an infield single by Hannah Ney ’11 and scored after Amanda Stromquist ’12 laid down a sacrifice bunt that was followed by an error.
Central caught fire in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs, and tallied two in the fifth.
Ney and Gwen Deger ’11 (pictured) each had two hits for Grinnell, while Colver and Jayme Wiebold ’12 had one apiece.
In the second game, Central rode a no-hitter by Rhianna Fleetwood to the victory.
Central improved to 35-5 with the wins, while the Pioneers finished at 0-33.
