Grinnell College’s softball team lost a twin bill at Loras College Sunday, falling 11-2 and 8-0.
Aniela Wendt ’14 (pictured) and Amanda Stromquist ’12 both had three hits on the day for Grinnell, which is now 0-31. Loras improved to 16-21.
In the opener, Grinnell scored in the first inning as Wendt singled to left, moved to second on a walk by Brianna Gallo ’11, took third on Stromquist’s single to center and scored on a bases-loaded walk by Jayme Wiebold ’12.
Loras countered with a run in the bottom of the first and three runs in the third for a 4-1 lead. Grinnell got its final run in the top of the third. Kelsey Montgomery ’11 doubled to center, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and crossed the plate on Hannah Ney’s ’11 sacrifice fly.
However, Loras scored two runs in the bottom of the third, three more in the fourth and two in the fifth.
In the second game, Loras had three runs in the first, two in the third and three more in the fifth. Wendt, Gallo and Stromquist had two hits apiece to account for all of Grinnell’s hits.
Stromquist was the pitcher of record in both games for the Pioneers.
Grinnell concludes the 2011 campaign Wednesday with games at Central College.
