Grinnell College’s softball team dropped a pair of contests Friday at its own tournament.

The Pioneers opened their day with a 12-2, six-inning setback to Nebraska Wesleyan and then fell 7-2 to Westminster.

Christina Colver ’13 had two of Grinnell’s seven hits on the day, including a double against Nebraska Wesleyan.

The visitors scored two runs in the first inning, another in the second and two in the third for a 5-0 lead.

Grinnell got a run in the fourth when Summer Wilke ’15 walked, took second on a passed ball and scored on Colver’s double to center.

Nebraska Wesleyan tallied four runs in the fifth inning for a 9-1 lead. Grinnell scored again in the fifth when Jessica Menary ’13 walked, moved to second when Lindsay Fujimoto ’15 was hit by a pitch and scored on Wilke’s single up the middle.

Grinnell’s other hit in the game was a single by Fujimoto in the third.

Fulton suffered the pitching loss.

In the next game, Westminster’s Sarah Schneider scattered four hits and struck out nine en route to the victory.

The visitors went up 2-0 with solo runs in the first and third innings, and scored twice more in the fourth.

Grinnell got a run in the fifth when Fujimoto walked, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on Wilke’s sacrifice fly.

Westminster went ahead 7-1 in the sixth. The Pioneers tried to get back into the game in the seventh with a run. Menary walked and stole second before scoring on Grace Ryan’s single through the right side.

Other hits by Grinnell were a triple to right-center by Jayme Wiebold ’12 and singles by Colver and Aiyana Turpen-Scott ’14.

Stromquist had the pitching loss.

Grinnell, 1-15 on the season, plays Washington University at noon Saturday to conclude pool play and then will meet a team to be determined at 2 p.m. in the consolation game.
