Assistant Professor
Tom Sonnichsen joined Grinnell's coaching staff in 1997 to become the head coach of the softball program. He led the team to its first Midwest Conference South Division title in 1998 and a second place finish in the Midwest Conference Championship. Under his guidence, the program has collected 132 wins. Twenty-four players have been named All-Conference during this time and the team regularly leads the Midwest Conference in Academic All-Conference selections. He also is the head coach of the Pioneer volleyball program.
Sonnichsen graduated from the University of Oregon in 1974 with a B.S. in Political Science. In 1997 he obtained a M.S. Ed. in Sport Management from Baylor University.
In his spare time, Sonnichsen enjoys gardening, bonsai, fishing and spending time with family. He is also an Assistant Professor of Physical Education. He and his wife, Cathy, reside in Grinnell. They have two sons, Matt and Kirk, along with four grandchildren.
18 yr career playing fast-pitch softball for local teams. Coached ASA 12-U and 14-U teams. Coached at Tri-County High School, Thornburg, Iowa and currently an assistant softball coach at Grinnell High School.

Craig & his wife Judy live in Grinnell - parents of David, a junior at Grinnell High School and Kelsey, a first-year at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
