Scheef, who will also serve as assistant coach for Pioneers' women's basketball team, brings a vast amount of softball coaching experience to Grinnell. She most recently was head coach at McPherson College in Kansas, where she started up a new program, and also served as head coach at Berea College and Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.
Her experience isn't limited to softball, though. Scheef also served as head volleyball coach at Northeast Community College in Nebraska and Iowa Lakes Community College. She also has also served as an assistant basketball coach.
Scheef did her undergraduate work at Wayne State College in Nebraska and Missouri State Southern University, and gained her master's degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.
Kate Gluckman joins the Grinnell College softball program after coming to the school in the fall of 2008.
Also the Pioneer women's basketball coach, Gluckman helped build a successful hoops program as an assistant coach at Tufts University.
Gluckman had coached at Tufts since 2006. In her first season at the school, the Jumbos compiled an 18-8 mark. Tufts bettered that record this in 2007-08, going 26-4 while advancing all the way to the NCAA Division III National Tournament Elite Eight. The 2007-08 mark is the best in school history.
Gluckman also played basketball at Tufts, where she served as team captain in 2003-04 on a squad that went 18-6, the program's best mark to that date. She was a member of the Jumbos' track and field team, as well, and earned All-New England honors in the discus while also collecting academic all-conference honors.
18 yr career playing fast-pitch softball for local teams. Coached ASA 12-U and 14-U teams. Coached at Tri-County High School, Thornburg, Iowa and currently an assistant softball coach at Grinnell High School.
