Assistant Coach Al Hodgeman

Prior to joining the Pioneer staff in 2010, Hodgeman served as a coach at the high school and club level in Iowa for 16 years. He’s been a head coach at Centerville and Lynnville-Sully High Schools, as well as an assistant coach at Oskaloosa High School where he helped build a strong program that saw three consecutive state tournament appearances in 1993, 1994 and 1995.

In helping the Pioneers, his responsibilities include practice management, player skill development and team systems.

A 1975 graduate of Guilford High School in Rockford, Ill., Al attended the University of Dubuque where he earned a degree in secondary special education in 1979. He went on to teach high school special education for nine years and then worked in the special education field for the next 12 years as part of the AEA system in Iowa. He obtained his master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1995 and moved into corporate education in 2000 as Team Development Manager for Musco Sports Lighting in Oskaloosa. He is currently a Senior Development Specialist for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company.

Al and his wife, Lynn, live in New Sharon and have two children, AJ and Kylie.
