The Grinnell College volleyball team lost a hard-fought four-set decision to St. Norbert College in the opening round of the Midwest Conference Tournament Friday night in De Pere, Wis.
The top-seeded hosts won by scores of 25-12, 24-26, 25-19 and 25-14 to move to 25-7 and advance to the title match at 1 p.m. Saturday against Lake Forest College.
Grinnell, the fourth seed, finished at 9-17.
Michelle Briggs ‘13 pounded down 16 kills for the Pioneers and hit .244 for the match, while Claire Weidman ‘15 added 11 kills and Bonnie Kircher ‘12 seven.
Olivia Wilks ‘12 distributed 40 assists and also had 17 digs. Others in double digits for digs were Kate Duran ‘12 with 18, Bethine Moore ‘13 and Lindsay Fujimoto ‘15 with 12 apiece and Weidman with 11.
Cheyenne Hickox ‘15 had five blocks and Gillian Bryansk ‘12 and Briggs tallied two apiece.
