The Grinnell College volleyball team gave a valiant effort, but in the end suffered a three-set loss to Beloit College in the opening round of the Midwest Conference Championships Friday afternoon at De Pere, Wis.
Beloit, the second seed, won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 while improving to 24-5. Grinnell, the third seed, finished its campaign at 14-19.
Claire Reeder ’11 had 12 kills for Grinnell, while Michelle Briggs’ 13 added six. Olivia Wilks ’12 distributed 25 assists and Carlie Beach ’10 tallied 12 digs, while Wilks and Elizabeth Davis ’11 had eight each. Davis also served two aces.
Mary Parker had eight kills for Beloit, which will play in the title match on Saturday.
