Briggs

Michelle Briggs ’13 posted her fifth double-double in a row, but it wasn’t enough as the Grinnell College women’s basketball team lost a 63-46 decision at Ripon College Friday in Midwest Conference play.

Briggs had 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four blocks for the Pioneers, who fell to 9-5 in the MWC and 10-8 overall. Megan Huey ’12 added eight points and six rebounds. Huey also had three steals, as did Abby Jaeger ’14.

Jill Van Eperen had 15 points for the Red Hawks, who improved to 8-6 in the MWC and 9-10 overall.

Grinnell never led in the game, but was within three when two free throws by Briggs made it 15-12 with 11:30 left in the first half. However, the hosts followed with a 10-0 run to pull away and were up 31-23 at halftime.

Ripon never let Grinnell closer than eight the rest of the way en route to victory.

The Pioneers continue their road trip Saturday with a game at league-leader St. Norbert College, starting at 1 p.m.
