Trailing by 13 points early in the second half while on the road against the league’s second-place team, things didn’t look bright for the Grinnell College women’s basketball team.

But the Pioneers ignored those facts completely, and used a furious rally to knock off Monmouth College 63-57 Wednesday in Midwest Conference action.

Grinnell College’s Megan Huey ‘12 has been named the Midwest Conference Women’s Basketball Performer of the Week.

Huey, a 5-11 forward from Wichita, Kan. (West Des Moines Valley), had a huge weekend performance as she recorded double-doubles in Grinnell victories over Beloit College and Lawrence University.

She had game-highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds in a 67-39 win over Beloit on Friday, and followed that up with 12 points...

In a victory Friday, Grinnell College’s Megan Huey ’12 posted a double-double.

She repeated that feat Saturday afternoon and was joined in that accomplishment by teammate Michelle Briggs ’13 as the Pioneers topped Lawrence University 62-49 at Darby Gymnasium.

Their efforts pushed Grinnell to 7-3 in the Midwest Conference, the Pioneers’ best start in league play since the 2003-04 season. Grinnell is 8-6 in all games.

Megan Huey ’12 (pictured) erupted for a double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Grinnell College women’s basketball team to a 67-39 victory over Beloit College Friday at Darby Gymnasium.

Huey, who was 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, also had two steals as Grinnell moved to 6-3 in the Midwest Conference and 7-6 overall.

The Grinnell College women’s basketball team lost a hard-fought 46-44 battle to Carroll University Saturday afternoon in Waukesha, Wis.

Cristal Coleman ’15 lit up the nets for Grinnell with 12 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point land. Also in double figures were Michelle Briggs ’13 and Megan Huey ’12, who both had 10 points. Briggs also had nine rebounds and three blocks.
