Grinnell women's basketball team wins again

The Grinnell College women's basketball team won for the fourth time in its past five outings Wednesday night with a 67-57 victory over Knox College at Galesburg, Ill.

Hannah Wolf '08 turned in yet another double-double for the Pioneers, who improved to 4-5 in the Midwest Conference and 6-10 overall, with game-highs of 28 points and 11 rebounds. Kate Norton '11 added 13 points and seven rebounds for the winners, while Miki Nakamura '10 had eight rebounds. Kate Moon scored 17 points for Knox, which fell to 1-8 in the MWC and 3-13 overall.

Grinnell actually trailed 21-20 at halftime before Norton scored the first bucket of the second half to give the visitors the lead for good. It was still just a one-point lead a bit later before the Pioneers broke open the game with a 17-6 run, making it 43-31 with 12:22 left. A balanced attack sparked the big spurt, as Norton, Laura Burton '08, Jessica Shotts '10, Jessica Vaverka '11 and Mallory Scharf '11 each had three points in that span, while Wolf scored two.

The Pioneers cruised from there, as the lead never got smaller than eight points en route to victory. Grinnell is back in action Saturday when Illinois College visits Darby Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. contest. After that, the Pioneers are back at Darby Tuesday night for a 5 p.m. meeting with Monmouth College.
