Head Coach Kate Gluckman
Gluckman Head Women's Basketball Coach
2008-Present

Kate Gluckman, who helped build a successful women's basketball program as an assistant coach at Tufts University, is in her second season as Grinnell's head coach.

Gluckman had coached at Tufts since 2006. In her first season at the school, the Jumbos compiled an 18-8 mark. Tufts bettered that record in 2007-08, going 26-4 while advancing all the way to the NCAA Division III National Tournament Elite Eight. The 2007-08 mark was the best in school history.

Gluckman also played basketball at Tufts, where she served as team captain in 2003-04 on a squad that went 18-6, the program's best mark to that date. She was a member of the Jumbos' track and field team, as well, and earned All-New England honors in the discus while also collecting academic all-conference honors.

Assistant Coach Rick Mitchell
Mitchell 2009-Present

Rick Mitchell joins the Grinnell College women's basketball program as a first-year coach. Mitchell was a Club and City League basketball coach for six years in Arlington, Texas, before moving back to Grinnell.

He is also the Pioneer men's and women's assistant tennis coach and got his USNTA certification in 2009. As a player, Mitchell played in tournaments across Iowa and Texas, earning a top 100 ranking in the state of Iowa in 1981.

A 1980 graduate of Grinnell High School, Mitchell attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo where he graduated in 1983 with an AAA Degree in commercial art/business management.

Mitchell, a graphic artist for 26 years, runs a business from home. In 2004, the Mitchells started a small-scale farm that provides natural products locally. He and his wife, Martha, have two children, Anthony and Cecilia.

Assistant Coach Suzanne Scheef
Scheef 2009-Present

Suzanne Scheef joined the Pioneer basketball staff in 2009 while also serving as the interim softball coach at the College.

She brings a wealth of experience, having served as head women's basketball and softball coach at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. Most recently she was head softball coach at McPherson College in Kansas, where she started a new program. Scheef also served as head softball coach at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky, and was head volleyball coach at Northeast Community College in Nebraska and Iowa Lakes Community College.

Scheef did her undergraduate studies at Wayne State College in Nebraska and Missouri State Southern University, and gained her master's degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.
