The Grinnell College women's basketball team led 29-25 at halftime before host Monmouth College rallied for a 75-60 Midwest Conference victory Wednesday night.

Elizabeth Burnett '13 led all of Grinnell's scorers with 12 points, while Michelle Briggs '13 had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Jessica Shotts '10 also had 11 points. Megan Huey '12 (pictured) grabbed 10 boards, while Briggs blocked two shots and Brianna Gallo '11, Ashley Jeannin '12 and Briggs had four assists each.

Grinnell is now 2-7 in the MWC and 4-12 in all games, while Monmouth - which was led by Zipporah Williams' 18 points - is 5-4 in the league and 10-4 in all games.

Grinnell went up by as much as 10 in the first half when a 12-0 run made it 29-18 with 2:37 left. Mallory Scharf '11 had four points during the spurt, while Jeannin and Briggs added three each.

After Monmouth closed within four at halftime, Grinnell built its lead to seven in the second half on a jumper by Briggs that made it 39-32 at the 16:52 mark. But the hosts gradually clawed back and took the lead before securing the win.

Grinnell plays at Lake Forest College Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
