The Grinnell College women’s and men’s cross country teams are both ranked in the NCAA Division III Central Region rankings compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Pioneer men, fresh off winning their own Les Duke Invitational, moved up from sixth to fifth. Grinnell’s women, unranked at the start of the season, enter at the No. 9 spot.

Midwest Conference Performer of the Week Stephanie Rouse ’13 (pictured) led the way for the Grinnell College women’s cross country team again Saturday morning, placing ninth at the Pioneers’ own Les Duke Invitational at Oakland Acres Golf Club.

After running the first cross country race of her collegiate career, Grinnell College’s Stephanie Rouse ’13 has received a prestigious award.

Rouse, from Colorado Springs, Colo. (William J. Palmer), has been named the Midwest Conference Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.

With newcomer Stephanie Rouse ’13 (pictured) leading the way, the Grinnell College women’s cross country team placed second at the Central College Dutch Invitational Saturday morning at Pella.

The Grinnell College women’s cross country team will look to a group of experienced returnees and some talented newcomers in its quest for a successful campaign in 2011.

Among the returnees are a pair of All-Midwest Conference performers, Hannah Colter ’12 and Sarah Burnell ’14.

Longtime Grinnell coach Will Freeman has been elected chairman of the NCAA Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Committee by a vote of NCAA committee members.

A member of the NCAA committee for the past three years, Freeman has been the liaison for cross country and indoor track and also the D-III representative to the NCAA rules committee.

Both the Grinnell women’s and men’s cross country teams have earned NCAA Division III All-Academic status for the 2010 campaign from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association

Grinnell’s women had a team grade point average of 3.49 and the men a 3.47. Grinnell’s men were one of 125 schools to earn the honor, while the Pioneer women were one of 167.

Hannah Colter ’12 (pictured) led the way for the Grinnell College women’s cross country team at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships on Saturday.
