Pioneers Capture Third Straight Conference Team Title. Spencer Takes Individual Title

The Grinnell College women's cross country team capped-off the Midwest Conference Championships by finishing with nine All-Conference runners, while also bringing home its third straight team title.

Finishing with 21 points and placing five runners in the top seven, the Pioneers won convincingly. Ripon took second with 111 points as Beloit and Lake Forest finished a close third and fourth with 113 and 115 points respectively. Monmouth (127 points) rounded out the top-five.

Running on a soggy and slow course from three straight days of rain, Sarah Spencer '08 (left, 18:35) took the individual crown by knocking off two-time defending champion Erin Kelley by 17 seconds. Sara Brady '07 (18:53) and Allison Louthan '08 (19:13) took third and fourth respectively, while Katie Ryan '07 (19:51) and Becky Bessinger '09 (19:58) finished sixth and seventh.

Erin Sindewald '08 took 11th in a time of 20:19 with Meredith Groves '08 right behind in 12th after finishing in a time of 20:24. Erin Booth '07 (20:42) and Rachel Whitfield '10 (21:02) brought home 14th and 20th-place finishes to round out the All-Conference performers for the Pioneers.

Next up for Grinnell is a trip to the NCAA Regionals in Northfield, Minn., on November 11th beginning at 11:00 a.m.
