Assistant Professor
Evelyn Freeman has been a member of the Grinnell College coaching staff since 1980. She is the head women's cross country coach, as well as the head women's indoor and outdoor track coach. Over the past 25 years, Evelyn has produced 11 Midwest Conference cross country championship teams, two indoor track title teams, and one outdoor track league winner. She has also coached several All-American athletes and Academic All-Americans.
In addition to serving as a full-time coach, Freeman is an Assistant Professor. She instructs Wellness I and Wellness II, as well as the aerobics physical education activities classes.
A native of Canada, Freeman obtained her Bachelor of Art in physical education from York University (Toronto) in 1978. She recieved a Bachelor of Education from the Universtiy of Toronto in 1979.
As an athlete, Evelyn was an outstanding high jumper for Canada during the 1970s. She competed in two Olympic trials.
During the summers, Freeman is often invited to be a guest speaker at various track and field coaching clinics throughout the country. She also enjoys playing slow-pitch softball and volleyball, as well as traveling. Evelyn Freeman is married to Grinnell men's cross country and track & field coach, Will Freeman. The Freeman's have three children: Cameron (19), Deidre (17), and Nicolette (13).
