Mallory Messin ’13 (pictured) and Hailey Speck ’15 placed second and third, respectively, to lead the Grinnell College women’s golf team to a runner-up finish at the Central College Fall Invitational Saturday.
Messin had a two-day total of 165, 21 over par, with rounds of 82 and 83. Speck finished at 85-83-168.
Grinnell had two other players in the top 10, as well. Natalie Klee ’13, playing as an individual, was eighth with an 87-92-179, while Stephanie Spahr ’14 was ninth with a 90-90-180.
Alex Plemmons ’15 finished 11th with a 96-86-182, Elizabeth Burnett ’13 was 13th with a 95-89-184 and Elaine Teo ’12 tied for 16th while playing as an individual with a 98-94-192.
Grinnell had a team score of 693, 11 shots behind champion Central in the six-team field.
The Pioneers host their own individual this coming Saturday at Grinnell Country Club.
