Elizabeth Burnett ’13 (pictured) is in second place and three Grinnell College Pioneers rank among the top five after the first day of the 2011 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championships Friday at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.
Burnett fired a 9-over-par 81 and is one shot behind Erin Sullivan of Carroll University, who had an 80.
Grinnell’s Kayleigh Kresse ’15 is in fourth place with an 83 and Mallory Messin ’13 is tied for fifth with an 85.
Other Grinnell players include Natalie Klee ’13 and Stephanie Spahr ’14 (both tied for 16th with 92), Alex Plemmons ’15 (22nd with a 94) and Hailey Speck ’15 (tied for 23rd with a 95).
Grinnell is second in the team standings with a 350, 12 shots behind two-time defending champion Carroll University.
The meet continues Saturday and concludes Sunday.
