The Grinnell College women’s golf team had four players earn All-Midwest Conference honors as the Pioneers capped the three-day league tournament Sunday with a runner-up finish at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.
Mallory Messin ’13 captured All-MWC honors for the third time in her career after placing second with a three-day score of 245. She had an 85 on the opening day of the tourney and followed that up with consecutive 8-over-par rounds of 80.
Messin was just eight shots behind overall champion Angelina Parrinello of Carroll University, and Messin’s runner-up finish equaled her placing of two years ago and bettered last year’s fourth-place effort.
Elizabeth Burnett ’13 earned All-MWC honors for the second time in her career by finishing third with an 81-89-81-251. She was also All-MWC in 2009 after finishing ninth.
Grinnell’s other All-MWC honorees were Alex Plemmons ’15, who was ninth with a 94-82-93-269, and Hailey Speck ’15, who tied for 10th with a 95-88-89-272.
Natalie Klee ’13 tied for 12th with a 92-95-91-278 and Stephanie Spahr ’14 tied for 17th with a 92-99-89-280.
Pioneer coach David Arseneault was named MWC Coach of the Year as Grinnell finished second in the team standings with a score of 1,028. That was just 23 shots behind three-time champion Carroll, which also earned the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championships next spring.
