It was a big day for the newcomers as the Grinnell College women’s soccer team knocked off St. Catherine University 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Springer Field.

Both of the Pioneers’ goals and both assists came from women playing their first seasons for Grinnell, which improved to 6-3-1 while stretching its winning streak to four games.

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team moved to 3-0 in the Midwest Conference for the first time since the 2008 season Saturday, winning a wild 4-3 decision over St. Norbert College at Springer Field.

Abby Jaeger ’14 had a goal and assist for the Pioneers, who moved to 5-3-1 overall, while others who scored were Rachel Weinstein ’13, Sarah Jensen ’15 and Patty Murphy-Geiss ’14.

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team capped a perfect weekend Sunday by disposing of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on the latter’s field by a 2-1 score.

The Pioneers, who also defeated Lawrence University on Saturday, improved to 4-3-1 overall while UW-Oshkosh fell to 5-3 while having a five-game winning streak snapped. Grinnell’s victory also avenged a loss to the Titans last year.

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team moved to a perfect 2-0 in Midwest Conference play Saturday by posting a 3-2 win at Lawrence University.

Patty Murphy-Geiss ’14 (pictured) had a big performance for the Pioneers, coming up with her team-high fourth goal of the season as well as two assists.

Grinnell College took command early, but Central College came back to earn a 2-1 women’s soccer victory Sunday at Springer Field.

The Pioneers, who more than doubled the shots total of Central, erupted for a goal in just the second minute of the game when Hannah Safter ’14 (pictured) found the back of the net from about 6 yards out after the ball was deflected off a Central player. It was Safter’s second goal of the season.

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team opened its 2011 Midwest Conference campaign on a strong note Saturday afternoon, blanking Monmouth College 3-0 at Monmouth, Ill.

Patty Murphy-Geiss ’14 (pictured) had a goal and assist for the Pioneers, who improved to 2-2-1 overall. In just the ninth minute, she had an assist on a goal by Cynthia Dominguez ’12. It was the second goal of the season by Dominguez.

Hannah Safter ‘14 (pictured) recorded a goal in the 76th minute to give the Grinnell College women’s soccer team a 1-1 tie with Coe College Wednesday at Cedar Rapids.

Coe opened the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute and was up 1-0 at intermission. Safter’s goal, which was unassisted, led to a 1-all tie at the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the extra periods.

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team won the shots battle Saturday, but in the end the University of Dubuque eked out a 1-0 victory over the Pioneers at Springer Field.
