The Grinnell College women’s soccer team remained tied atop the Midwest Conference standings Saturday with a 5-0 blanking of Beloit College at Beloit, Wis.
Rachael Koester ’13 (pictured) scored her first two goals of the season for Grinnell, which improved to 5-0-1 in the MWC and 8-4-2 overall. Beloit dipped to 0-6-1 in the conference and 4-10-1 in all games.
Grinnell got out to a 4-0 halftime lead, and was ahead 3-0 just 11 minutes into the game.
Koester led things off with a goal in the sixth minute on an assist by Jordan Young ’14.
Becca Carter ’12 scored less than three minutes later when she booted the ball in on a 40-yard free kick, and Koester made it 3-0 in the 11th minute when she found the back of the net on an assist by Eden Marek ’15.
An own goal made it 4-0 in the 27th minute. Grinnell concluded the scoring in the 83rd minute when Elle Silverman ’15 scored her first goal of the season on assists by Mary Ulseth ’13 and Kirsten Louthan ’12.
Grinnell won the shots battle 21-5, with 12 of those shots on goal. Hannah Safter ’14 took four shots, Abby Jaeger ’14 and Louthan had three and Koester, Kathryn Vincent ’13 and Silverman had two apiece.
Young worked 71 minutes at keeper and had two saves for Grinnell. Devon Manley ’15 played the rest of the game.
Grinnell has a key MWC matchup Sunday, facing MWC co-leader Carroll University at Waukesha, Wis. Game time is 11 a.m.
