Grinnell College’s women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Carroll University in a battle of Midwest Conference co-leaders Sunday in Waukesha, Wis.

Despite the setback, Grinnell has qualifies for the MWC Tournament for the first time since the 2008 season.

Carroll led 2-0 at halftime, with Kelly Moran scoring six minutes into the contest and Kayla Pfeiffer adding a goal in the 44th minute.

Carroll won the shots battle 13-4. Kathryn Vincent ’13 had two of Grinnell’s shots, while Becca Carter ’12 and Kirsten Louthan ’12 had the others.

Grinnell keeper Jordan Young ’14 recorded six saves. Grinnell is now 5-1-1 in the league and 8-5-2 overall, while Carroll moved to 6-0-1 in the MWC and 8-7-1 overall.

Grinnell closes out the regular season next weekend with a pair of home contests, entertaining Ripon College at 11 a.m. Saturday and Knox University at 11 a.m. Sunday.
