The Grinnell College women’s soccer team will compete in its first Midwest Conference Tournament since 2008 Friday when the Pioneers take on Carroll University in semifinal action at DePere, Wis. Game time is 11 a.m. and will be webcast here.

Grinnell and Carroll were tri-champions of the league’s regular-season race with 7-1-1 records. Grinnell enters the contest as the third seed and is 10-5-2 overall.

Grinnell’s goal leader has been Patty Murphy-Geiss ’14, who has seven on the season but is currently injured. Sarah Jensen ’15 has four goals, while Cynthia Dominguez ’12 and Hannah Safter ’14 have three each. Kathryn Vincent ’13 and Jaeger have four assists each, while Eden Marek ’15, Murphy-Geiss and Rachael Koester ’13 have three.

Goal keeper Jordan Young ’14 has a 1.23 goals against average and .747 saves percentage.

Carroll, 9-8-1 overall and the tourney’s second seed, beat Grinnell 2-0 in regular-season play.

Sarah Tennant has eight goals for the Pioneers, Lauren Demski has six and Kelly Morgan five. Kara Delie leads the assists department with four.

Keeper Taylor McLean has a 1.18 goals against average and .747 saves percentage.

The other semifinal pits top-seeded St. Norbert College, also a MWC tri-champ, and fourth-seeded Lawrence University. That contest is at 2 p.m.

The semifinal winners play at noon Saturday for the title and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
