Kelly Bruce ’12 (pictured) claimed third place to pace the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team Friday at its own invitational at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Bruce tallied a score of 411.55.

Danielle Phillips ’15 placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:35.26 and swam on the fifth-place 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams that had times of 8:26.80 and 4:16.26, respectively.

The Grinnell College swimming and diving teams will host their own annual invitational Friday and Saturday at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

The men placed second at last year’s meet with 1254.5 points, just a bit behind champion Gustavus Adolphus’ total of 1312.5 in the seven-team field.

Grinnell’s women were fourth in 2011 with 556 points. The University of Nebraska-Omaha placed first in the 12-team meet with 1176 points.

The Grinnell women’s swimming team took runner-up honors in a trio of events Tuesday during a dual meet with Connecticut College at Naples, Fla.

The Pioneers had second-place efforts from Beth Gillig ’15 in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.45), Nikki Pyle ’12 in the 100 backstroke (1:04.38) and the 200 medley relay squad of Sara Hannemann ’14, Emily Bajet ’12, Kristina De La Torre ’14 and Lauren O’Hair ’12 (1:58.46).

A pair of event victories Saturday sent the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team to its second Pioneer Classic title in as many years at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Danielle Phillips ’15 (left) was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.88) and Kelly Bruce ’12 (right) captured top honors in one-meter diving (383 points).

Grinnell College’s Kelly Bruce ’12 (left) captured the three-meter diving crown with a meet-record score of 389.25 at the Pioneer Classic swimming and diving event Friday at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

That effort helped Grinnell to first place in the team standings with 241 points, 51 in front of runner-up Coe College in the 13-team field.

The Grinnell College swimming and diving teams will be out to defend their titles when they compete in the second annual Pioneer Classic Friday and Saturday at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Grinnell’s women emerged from last year’s 11-team field with 1,202 points to outdistance runner-up Loras College, which had 802.5. On the men’s side, Grinnell tallied 1,340 points while second-place Loras had 835.5.

Grinnell College athletes have swept the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week awards, as Kelly Bruce ’12 (left) earned the women’s honor and Michael Brus ’13 (right) claimed the men’s award.

Bruce, from Middleton, Wis. (Middleton), earned an NCAA Division III National Championships “B” cut in one-meter diving during Saturday’s dual meet against Loras College with a score of 256.80 en route to winning the event....

Three Grinnell College women had a hand in three event victories as the Pioneers defeated Loras College 129-109 Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Triple winners were Morgan Bober ’12, Danielle Phillips ’15 (left) and Beth Gillig ’15 (right).

Phillips won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:43.44 and also swam on the winning 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays that finished in 4:22.25 and 3:55.24, respectively...

Grinnell College’s Morgan Bober ’12 (pictured) and Kelly Bruce ’12 each won two events in the Pioneers’ dual swimming and diving meet against Luther College Saturday at Decorah.

Bober was first in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley in times of 1:02.49 and 2:21.32, respectively. Bruce won both one-meter diving events with scores of 169.10 and 235.20.

It is nearly impossible to find anyone whose life has not been touched by cancer, whether it is through a friend, family member, or even a teammate. The swimmers at Grinnell College have found one more way to fight back: the sixth annual Ted Mullin “Leave It in the Pool” Hour of Power Relay for Sarcoma Research, sponsored by the Carleton College swimming and diving teams, set for Tuesday, Nov. 8.
